Books
As a general rule, you can pick up the most recently acquired books directly from the shelf. The Library Catalogue GUNDA will inform you about the location of these books. When the information shown under Call Number and Location begins with an indication of the letters ÖM and the book is available for loan, make a note of the call number so that you can collect the book from the appropriate shelf. In all other cases the book must be requested and collected by the library staff. This will take about three hours. Some library material is not for home loan but can be ordered to the reading room. This restriction concerns primarily literature published before 1900, fiction in Swedish, and slender booklets.
Journals
The last year’s issues of a selection of journals are exhibited in the periodicals reading room. Older issues are on floor 6A (ÖM per). Older issues are for home loan but the journals in the periodicals reading room are for library use only. Some journals are placed in close stacks and must be requested.
Textbooks
There is a special collection of textbooks in the humanities on floor 6 (ÖM Kurs). These are often available in more than one copy. Normally, there is also a copy for reference use. Textbooks in the social sciences are held by the Undergraduate and Newspaper Library (KTB), Vasagatan 2A.
Reference Material
The refererence collection (Ref) is placed in the reference room, the reading room, and the student computer room in order of subject area. The collection comprises dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, biographical anthologies, statistics, governmental and parliamentary publications, and codes of law.
Bibliographies
The most important bibliographies (books that list literature in different subjects) are available in the catalogue room and the reference room. Swedish bibliographies are placed in a separate section in the catalogue hall and comprise the national bibliography, indexes of journals and newspapers, personal bibliographies, and bibliographies on different subject areas with regard to the Swedish publication.
