How to search KVINNSAM
KVINNSAM is since 2003 a part of LIBRIS, the Swedish National Database.
It is possible to search for keywords, author, title and controlled subject headings. It is also possible to search for articles, monographs, journals and chapters.
Language
Limiting the search with items in a special language is possible.
About 60% of the literature is in English, about 20% is in Swedish. Other languages include Norwegian, Danish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, etc.
Subject headings

The gender aspect is implicit throughout the indexing; the keyword journalists implies female journalists, Middle Ages refers to women's life in medieval times, and so on. To search for literature about men you have to make a combined search for, e.g. men and journalists. You can find more literature on men by searching for, e.g. masculinity
Subject indexing started in 1958 and the list of words is expanded when needed. One of the primary goals at Women's History Collections is to make the literature on women and gender visible and accessible. User-friendliness has been in focus from the start.
Women in different countries
If you want to search for women in a specific area you can limit your search to, e.g. Indo-China, Sweden, United States of America, etc. The ethnic subject headings such as Americans, Kurds and Swedes , refer to women outside their geographical origin.
Delimitation in time to a certain period
It is possible to delimit a search limit in the subject field, for example 19th century ; USA. You can also search on specific years and periods.
Name of people
It is possible to search for names of persons in the subject field. Articles about for example Judith Butler and her ideas about gender may be made available through Butler, Judith e.s. If a text is about the authorship of Virginia Woolf, her name is also searchable. Both famous and less famous women are searchable.
Institutions, organizations and journals as subjects
It is possible to search for a large number of organizations and institutions as subjects: EU , Amnesty International, Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library etc. You can also find literature about journals by searching for journal's name as a subject, e.g. Spare rib, Hertha etc.
Meetings and conferences as subjects
Literature about and from conferences can be found by searching in the subject field, e.g. meetings: Beijing 1995, meetings: Oslo 1986 etc.
Mythical characters, goddesses and characters from fiction as subjects

A large number of mythical characters, e.g. from the Bible, can be search in the subject field. You can find other characters from both old and modern fiction, e.g. Eva, Isolde, Betty Boop, etc. and a large number of goddesses from all over the world, e.g. Cybele, Isis, Kali, Freja etc.
