1884 - Bill No. 49 is the first parliamentary bill regarding the question of women’s suffrage. The bill is presented by Fredrik T. Borg in the parliament’s lower chamber (AK, Andra kammaren). The result of Borg’s bill is that the question of women’s suffrage is debated for the first time in the parliament – the Swedish Riksdag. 1884 is for this reason normally considered as a starting point in the struggle for franchise in Sweden.

1891 - Bill by S.A. Hedin, proposing that the word “man” [which is the same as the word for the indefinite pronoun “one” in Swedish] in the constitution should be replaced by the word “person”.

1902 - A proposition suggesting that voting married men above 40 should have two votes as these represent not only themselves but also their wives is presented in the parliament’s lower chamber. This is considered as a provocative proposition and is often indicated as one of the factors that triggered the organization of the struggle for women’s suffrage (FKPR, the association for women’s political franchise, is established the same year).
