Terms of use of e-books

Before reading, printing or downloading an e-book you will have to know what terms of use the different publishers and providers have. The terms can vary considerably.

Providers and publishers

The e-books are for private use or for teaching and research purposes only, if nothing else is stated.

Biblioteca Italiana Zanichelli

  • Printing: Occasional chapters.
  • Downloading: Entire e-books.

Bloomsbury Collections

  • Printing: Occasional chapters. Up to 10% of a book.
  • Downloading: Chapters may be downloaded as a PDF.

Books@Ovid

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters and articles.

Brill Online Reference Works

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters and articles.

CABI ebooks Leasure tourism

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters and articles.
  • Note: Four simultaneous users.

Cambridge Books Online

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters.
  • Downloading: Chapters can be downloaded as pdf files without any restrictions. You need Adobe Reader or another pdf reader to download and read the e-books.

The Cambridge Higher Education e-textbooks may only be read online. If you would like to use added features such as highlighting, notes, bookmarks and other features you will need to create a personal account.

  • Printing and copying: The terms for printing vary between different collections. Generally you are allowed to print or copy an occasional chapter or maximum 5 % of an entire e-book.
  • Downloading: The terms for downloading vary between different collections. Generally you are allowed to download an occasional chapter or maximum 5 % of an entire e-book.

Early English Books Online (EEBO)

  • Printing and copying: Entire e-books, except works containing copyrighted texts. These texts are not for downloading or printing.

Early European Books (EEB)

  • Printing and copying: Entire e-books, except works containing copyrighted texts. These texts are not for downloading or printing.

Ebook Central

  • Printing and copying: Maximum 20 % of an e-book.
  • Downloading: 1-3 days.
  • Downloading to a computer: Download Adobe Digital Editions and create your own Adobe user account.
  • Downloading to a smart phone or tablet: Download Bluefire Reader or another reader that supports Adobe Digital Editions.
  • Note: You always have to log in with your GU account to access e-books from Ebook Central, even if you are within the University of Gothenburg network.

EBSCO eBook Collection

  • Printing: Maximum 60 pages per session.
  • Downloading to a computer: Download Adobe Digital Editions and create your own Adobe and EbscoHost user accounts.
  • Downloading to a smart phone or tablet: Download the ”EBSCO Mobile App” and create a personal account.
  • Note: The terms for number of simultaneous users vary between one or three simultaneous users, or an unlimited amount of simultaneous users.

Elsevier/Science Direct

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters and articles. Private use only.
  • Downloading: The e-books are available in pdf. Each chapter is a pdf in itself and can be read on the screen or downloaded.
  • Note: The PDFs are compatible with text-to-speech software.

Emerald eBook Series

  • Printing: Occasional chapters.
  • Downloading: Occasional chapters.
  • Note: The PDFs are compatible with text-to-speech software.

Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL)

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters and articles.
  • Downloading: A number of articles are downloadable as regular pdf files without any restrictions. Adobe Reader or another pdf reader is needed for reading.
  • Note: The PDFs are compatible with text-to-speech software. You can listen to the article or download it as an MP3 file.

IMF e-Library

  • Printing: Chapters, entire e-books and articles.
  • Downloading: The e-books are downloadable in following formats: pdf, ePub, MOBI.

Knovel

  • Printing: Occasional chapters. Up to 20% of a book.
  • Downloading: Occasional chapters. Up to 20% of a book.

Loeb Classical Library

  • Printing and copying: Parts of the material.
  • Downloading: The books may only be read online.

  • Printing and copying: Entire e-books.
  • Downloading: Entire e-books.
  • Note: You are able to include excerpts from OECD publications, databases and multi media products in your own document, presentation, blog, website or teaching material. You are always required to state the correct source.

Oxford English Dictionary

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters and articles.
  • Downloading: You can download and save articles if you create your own user account.

Oxford Handbooks Online

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters or maximum 5 % of an entire e-book.
  • Downloading: Occasional chapters or maximum 5 % of an entire e-book.
  • Note: The pdf files work with text-to-speech software.

Oxford Reference Online

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters.
  • Downloading: You can download and save articles if you create your own user account.

Oxford Scholarship Online

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters or maximum 5 % of an entire e-book.

Springer Nature Experiments

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters and articles.
  • Downloading: Occasional chapters and articles.

Taylor & Francis ebooks

  • Printing and copying: You are allowed to print and copy but only for personal use.
  • Downloading: Books can be downloaded without limitations. Either entire the book or in chapters.
  • Note: E-books with PDF-files larger than 200 MB can not be downloaded, but can be read online without limitations. Gothenburg University Library only have access to a small number of books on the platform.

Thieme MedOne Education

  • Printing and copying: Occasional chapters and articles.
  • Downloading: Occasional chapters and articles.
  • Note: The pdf files work with text-to-speech software.

Thieme Teaching Assistant Anatomy

  • Printing and copying: Printing of pictures to include in a presentation, test, or other teaching material is allowed. Although the amount can not exceed 200 copies per presentation. You are required to state the correct source.
