Plastic library cards will be phased out from 6 May
Anyone who does not have a GU card can apply for a library card to borrow from the library. After 6 May, we will stop issuing plastic library cards, and digital library cards will be available in ‘My loans’. For students and employees, the GU card will continue to function as a library card.
Physical library cards are being phased out
Many use a library card instead of a GU card to borrow from the library. The existing plastic library cards will continue to work after 6 May, but no new plastic cards will be issued. A digital library card will be available to everyone via the ‘My Loans’ service from 6 May.
Logging in to systems for those who are not students or employees
From 6 May, those who are not students or employees can use their 12-digit personal identity number as a username to log in to ‘My Loans’, request items from our collections and borrow at the self-service machines.
Users who are not students or employees continue to log in using their library card number on computers at the libraries and to the university’s printing system. The library card will be available in ‘My Loans’.
