How to access articles and e-books outside campus

5 January 2026

To access the library's digital collections when you are outside the university network, you need a GU account and access to one of the university's multi-factor authentication (MFA) services.

Access as a student

All registered students at the University of Gothenburg have a GU account. To access the library's digital collections from home, you also need to install a multi-factor authentication (MFA) app on your phone.

Activate MFA for your account (Student portal)

If you need help getting started with MFA, you can get help from the Service Centre. During the start of the semester, there is also extra IT support available on site at the Service Centers.

How to access articles and e-books in Supersearch

  1. Go to Supersearch and perform your search.
  2. Click on the link to the article or book you are interested in. It may say, for example, "Fulltext options, or "Get PDF."
  3. Log in with your GU account, enter your email address (ending with student.gu.se) when a login box appears.
  4. Enter the password for your student account.
  5. You will then be asked to confirm your login using Microsoft Authenticator.

Access as an employee

If you are an employee and are logged in with the university's VPN, you will have access to the material immediately after clicking on the link to the desired e-resource.
