Information searching skills for your students
The Library offers instruction in information searching skills for student groups at the University of Gothenburg. Teachers and course coordinators are welcome to contact us to request instruction for their student group.
The library instruction sessions are about searching, evaluating and citing scholarly publications and other material. We teach larger groups in the University's lecture halls or smaller groups in the libraries' classrooms.
Introduction to the University Library
We offer introductions to the University Library at the start of the semester or at the beginning of a course.
The introductions contain information about
- Library support and services
- how the students find textbooks at the library
- how the students borrow and renew their loans
- study places and group study rooms at the library
- access to e-resources from home.
Introduction sessions are free and takes about 20 to 45 minutes.
Searching, evaluating and citing
Our instructions about searching, evaluating and citing are adapted to the students' subject fields and previous knowledge. We design the sessions to suit the students' assignment, project or thesis course. Please contact us to discuss the needs of your student group.
Sessions may contain exercises about
- how to choose keywords
- subject specific search services and databases
- evaluating search results
- evaluating different types of publications
- how to avoid plagiarism.
Cost: SEK 900 per hour. Instruction sessions may take one and a half to three hours, depending on what you wish to include for your students.
The libraries have their own classrooms. If any of your students need help getting in and finding the right classroom, they are welcome to contact the Library before they arrive.
